Commute Trip Reduction (CTR)

What is CTR?
A Washington State law, part of the State's Clean Air Act, to improve air quality, reduce traffic congestion, minmize energy consumption, and encourage people to find alternatives to driving to work alone.

Is everybody required to comply with CTR?
The law applies to all employers that have 100 or more employees who are scheduled to begin work between 6:00 and 9:00 a.m., and work 35 hours or more a week. Employers with employees who meet this criteria are required to work with and encourage the employers to use those alternatives.

What can CTR do?

  • Minimize energy consumption.
  • Improve air quality.
  • Reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Reduce traffic congestion.
  • Reduce vehicle emissions.

Alternatives to driving to work alone.

  • Carpooling.
  • Vanpools.
  • Public transit.
  • Walking and biking.
  • Compressed work weeks.
  • Telecommuting from home.

Carpooling is one of the easiest ways to reduce drive alone conmmuting. You do not necessarily have to carpool with just the people you work with. Do you and a friend or neighbor travel a similar route with different destinations near each other? You could possibly "share the ride" for that portion of your commute. Riding together two days a week could make a big difference in vehicle emissions. You will find more helpful tips on carpooling at www.clarkcommute.org.

C-Tran, Clark County's public transit system, has two regular routes between Camas and Washougal which connect with Portland's public transit system, TriMet. TriMet's routes travel over the I-5 or I-205 bridges. The C-Tran Connector provides the cities of Camas, La Center, and Ridgefield with fully accessible dial-a-ride and regular stop service within the designated service areas. Rides are provided on a first come, first serve basis. Rides can be arranged within the serivice area by calling the number listed on their websites. For transportation beyond the Connector service areas, passengers may transfer to C-Van or other fixed route buses at transit centers. Service hours and frequency vary from city to city. Please check the schedule for your specific area. Connector routes operate Monday through Friday only. No holiday Connector service is provided.

Check out the websites for C-Tran, www.c-tran.com and TriMet www.trimet.org for information on routes and schedules, including how to connect with the MAX trains in Portland. Both websites have information on how to combine riding and biking. For your convenience, bike lockers available at some locations.
