Goals

 
The Public Works Department commits to providing quality community services for the health and safety of its citizens and the environment.

Following are the goals of each of the divisions within Public Works.

Public Works Administration Division
Public Works Administration leads and supports the revitalization and development of the various business districts within the community. We also provide administrative support to the various divisions within Public Works.

  • Guides and strengthens an effective team.
  • Enhances customer services through improved information access, friendly service and prompt professional responses.
  • Facilitates the punctual application of Mayor/Council policy directives.
  • Continues enhancements of office management to improve efficiencies.
  • Promotes and retains a highly competent professional staff dedicated to serving the needs of residents and businesses.

Engineering Division
The Engineering Division furnishes general administration and supervision including planning and developing of capital improvement programs of city public works operations and provides for long range utility and transportation planning.

  • Continue to construct SE 1st Street/Lake Road street improvement project.
  • Complete the update of the City’s transportation plans to support the Growth Management Act (GMA) process.
  • Continue to improve citizen involvement in long-term planning and neighborhood projects.
  • Continue to refine the pavement management system, evaluate impacts of pavement restoration project on pavement rating and maintenance dollar requirements.
  • Implement National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II program.
  • Upgrade Camas Engineering Document Archival and Retrieval System (CEDARS) to incorporate map interface and advanced search capabilities. Evaluate feasibility of making CEDARS available to subscribers over the web.
  • Maintain and enhance the GIS mapping system and links to modeling programs.

Operations Division
Within the Operations Division, there are separate categories that meet various needs within the community. These categories are listed below with a brief description of their function.

Equipment Rental
Equipment Rental furnishes mobile equipment to the city’s other operating departments and also maintains equipment not owned by Equipment Rental.

Sanitary
The solid waste management function provides for the collection and disposal of refuse from businesses and residences within the City of Camas. This function also includes the revenues and expenses of the city-recycling program.

Streets
This department provides for maintenance and minor construction of all city streets within the city limits, street light repair and downtown mall maintenance.

Storm Water Drainage
Storm water drainage is a function of the street department and provides for planning and construction of storm-sewer facilities, and street sweeping.

Water-Sewer
The water-sewer operation of the city provides for furnishing domestic water and sanitary sewage disposal services to industrial, commercial and residential areas within the city and some surrounding areas.

Parks
The Parks Maintenance Department is responsible for maintenance of city parks, trails and open spaces.
