Friends
and Foundation of the Library
A new band of supporters emerged with the “merger”
of the Friends of the Camas Public Library and
the Camas Library Foundation in January, 2008.
For
over twenty years, the Friends helped the Camas
Public Library. Some of the Friends success stories
include: author visits, paperback books and books
on tape subscriptions, and the summer reading
programs. They have supplied books for two adult
and two young people’s book discussion groups,
and sponsored the very successful library sleepovers.
The Friends purchased the Garden Room for the
new children’s library, as well as books
and the music collection for the new library.
They funded volunteer and staff appreciation events.
The
Camas Library Foundation was incorporated in January
1997 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The
Foundation’s purpose was to accept donations
from the community to fund the continued development
and enhancement of quality library services provided
by the Camas Public Library. The goal of the Foundation
is to raise funds to supplement the City of Camas
budget and to provide for additional materials
and equipment for the library.
The
two groups agreed to become one in order to pool
their resources and energies. This allows them
to concentrate efforts on raising supplemental
funds for the library and end some confusion on
why there were two groups. They share a common
concern to preserve and protect intellectual freedom
as guaranteed in our First Amendment Rights.
Your
tax deductible donations to the Friends and Foundation
allow them to continue to advocate for the library,
underwrite special library programs for children,
teens and adults and support volunteerism on behalf
of the library.
