What we do:

The City's Technology Department is a highly motivated team working to promote, develop, design and build enhanced tools and resources for our community. Our goal is to continue to provide citizens and employees of the city with an improved digital experience that compliments the many vital public services provided by Department staff.

How we do it:

Throughout the year, our technology team works on a variety of special development projects which have been identified through our strategic planning lead by city administration and mayor, with funding approved by our elected council members.

For the budget year 2017, the following are examples of some of the projects underway or planned:

1.       Wireless Development:  Continued development of the City’s managed wireless network for guest and city business needs will provide new services to the public in many government buildings in Camas.

2.        Phone Services:  Finalizing the Comcast phone service migration in January.   This will bring many benefits and savings including free long distance and DID numbers, reduced costs for PRI lines, and will require less lines overall as the City eliminates the need for secondary lines at each facility.

3.        Community Engagement:  Participation with CRESA on their Community Engagement system which will be set up to gather and manage emergency notifications to the Camas Community.  This system will also push notifications to the City’s social media which will provide CRESA’s updates and important emergency information without additional staff time.

4.       IVR System:  Establishing the City’s first automated voice notification system to utility customers through the Accela IVR (integrated voice response) system.  This will allow Public Works to send voice messages to target utility customers during street construction or emergencies, weather related notices, water turn offs, or for any other city voice notifications.  Another way to engage and communicate timely with citizens.

5.       Application and System Development:  New Programs and application development for the Library, Finance/Cemetery and Public Works are scheduled for 2017 and several new products are in review for upgrades or replacements.

6.       Library Enhancements:  The Library and IT will be working on the new vision for library technologies and commitments to provide patrons with the best technologies matching the programs and resources it offers.  Most noticeable will be the improved wireless internet access reaching all areas of the library as well as wireless printing.  You may also notice a decrease in public desktops as patrons use their own devices more frequently throughout the building.  This will save the City money in hardware acquisitions, licensing and support.

7.       Security System:  City Hall securities will be improved replacing external access key pads with a security access card system for easier access and monitoring and adding security cameras to high profile areas and entrances.
