Pictured above is a rendering created by Architect’s Associative of the future 5,000 square foot Lacamas Lake Lodge and Conference Center, which will be built on the site formerly occupied by the Camas Moose Lodge. The building and 5-acre parcel of property were purchased by the city of Camas in 2000. Construction on the $1.9 million project could get underway in June.
The first signs foreshadowing the future construction of a new recreation facility in Camas were visible Friday, March 1st. That day, crews from the City of Camas and Ballard Diving and Salvage worked to remove the rickety, decades-old wooden dock that sat on Lacamas Lake in front of the city owned building formerly occupied by the Camas Moose. It was a step forward in a project that will ultimately result in construction of Lacamas Lake Lodge and Conference Center at 227 N.E. Lake Road.
"It makes you realize something is happening when you see logs being dragged through the parking lot," commented Camas Mayor Scott Higgins during last night's City Council workshop. "It's going to be a fun project."
On Monday, April 1st, at 7:00 am City of Camas staff demolished the structure previously known as the Camas Moose Lodge at 227 N.E. Lake Road, to make way for the new recreation facility. Construction of the Lacamas Lake Lodge and Conference Center could get underway in June.
JWC Construction has been awarded the bid to construct Lacamas Lake Lodge. On June 17th, Camas City Council approved the $1.83 million contract with JWC Construction by a vote of 6 - 0. Construction is scheduled to begin in July and the facility is expected to open up to the public in early 2014.
During the first week of July, Construction on the Lacamas Lodge project began. JWC Construction installed erosion control and cleared trees. A number of trees were removed along Lake Road to make room for the new left-turn lane construction. JWC is responsible for hauling the trees away from the site and no other trees are going to be removed for this project. The next step for site preparation is removal of the old asphalt parking lot, which should take place the 2nd week of July. An official ground-breaking ceremony will take place on Monday, July 15th, at 4 p.m.
Beginning Monday, August 12, work will commence on the street widening that is part of the Lacamas Lake Lodge project. Work will include:
- Boring under Lake Rd for a new power service
- Saw cutting along the north shoulder
- Shoulder widening
- New curbs
- Striping for new turn pocket
Saw cutting begins on Monday with the boring taking place on Tuesday, August 13. Overall work is planned to continue along the road for several weeks.
Traffic will be channeled into narrowed lanes with a pedestrian path on the north side of the street. Traffic delays will be intermittent depending on construction.
This project is expected to be completed by the end of January. It's October and you can see that the project is well underway. Feel free to drive by between now and the next few months to see the progress of the building.
